Chapter One: When Lust Invades
Mandery noticed that lately he’d become more aware of the women in his everyday surroundings…especially Sharmen Jones. She was his new secretary and she had it going on. He and his wife Christine had been married for over twelve years and although once happy, now they barely got along. He’d prided himself on being the husband of one woman and he enjoyed being Christine’s husband before she got all caught up in their new found status. It’s almost like the money was going to her head and the more she became hooked on the money, the more he became hooked on his secretary. Four months since he hired her and in the last two months, he’d been doing more butt watching than the law would allow.
Sharmen was a rather slender woman whose hips swayed easily from side to side when she walked. Her hair was always neatly pinned in a sophisticated up sweep and her face was always so radiant in the softest colors to match her outfits. Her eyes were dark and mysterious and her lips were as luscious as a shinny Granny apple. Mandery had never desired another woman other than Christine, but his emotions were running wild where Sharmen was concerned. What was even stranger, she’d remind him of Christine when they first met.
Something was truly happening to him and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to fix it or let it be. He’d grown tired of Christine who was constantly running around town buying stuff to symbolize that she was married to the cream of the crop. It was apparent to him that Christine no longer used the possessions to enhance their lives, but now the possessions used her. Now all she seemed to be concerned about was getting more, having more, and looking like she was worth more. On the other hand, Sharmen was just your every day around the way girl. She didn’t change purses every time she wore different clothes. She often carried the same bag as if she appreciated being able to afford it. And this is what caught his eye.
So often in marriage we leave so many doors open for the enemy to come in. Think about a fly; as soon as you open your front door, they fly in fast. You had no warning that they were awaiting entrance and they move so fast until you can hardly catch them. We all know how dirty flies are and we would rather they not even come in. Because of their ability to fly in fast, you aren’t quick enough to stop them from invading. I gave you that example so you can see just how LUST invades. It is a powerful spirit that moves quickly. It doesn’t wait on you to welcome it in; it steals every opportunity through the opened doors of your heart and mind that you’ve neglected to close.
The enemy knows how to put the spirit of lust to work in our lives. He has three sources to infect you…the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. You would be surprised at the number of relationships and marriages that are built on these three infection carriers. Lust is just like a bad virus. It’s an airborne infection that festers in air and is awaiting transfer; spirits are transferable. Like viruses, they find an open avenue to gain access into your body and then attach themselves.
Think about this, viruses can only affect the fragile or weak immune system. It targets places where weaknesses have caused an infraction and it squeezes into a place where it can operate, grow, break-down, and make weaker. A virus is a microscopic organism that causes disease and lust is an intense demonic spirit that produces sin.
Okay let’s look at the machine everyone loves these days…the computer in contrast to the human. A computer can operate with a virus as long as it doesn’t take full control; thus causing problems for the entire system. The objective of the virus is to plague the entire drive, stealing material, and eventually seizing and crashing the whole system. What’s good is, the system sometimes immediately starts showing signs that a virus is on board. It begins to operate slower and often the pop up material starts coming on the screen. Now if you don’t do something to erase the virus, you’ll allow it to strengthen. Although, you can pretend like it doesn’t exist and only later find out that you’ll need the help of a computer technician, to replace your entire hard drive. The stronger the virus gets, the harder it is to get rid of it.
Lust Can’t Be Ignored
It’s just like lust in humans….
A human can operate with lust but eventually lust will destroy the whole person…..physically, mentally, and spiritually. Lust is a spiritual virus and upon recognition that it has invaded, you must take measures to get rid of it. Measures must be taken quickly and precisely because lust is evasive and perceptive. You can’t get rid of lust by ignoring it or pretending that it doesn’t exist in you. You have to admit that it is trying to attack you and prayer is now the responsive measure that you need to take. Prayer is your opportunity to invite your Creator in as your intercessor, helping you to rebuke and break the stronghold that lust is trying to put on you.
