Have you ever paused during a hectic day to acknowledge a fleeting moment of peace and serenity? It might have been something as simple as a warm smile from a stranger or the comforting warmth of the morning sun. In these small, quiet moments, we often find the profound goodness of God manifesting in our lives.
The Nature of God's Goodness What do we mean when we talk about the "goodness of God"? In many spiritual traditions, God's goodness is understood as His essential nature—pure, unchanging, and infinitely benevolent. This is a foundational belief that colors how we view the world and our lives within it. For instance, the Psalmist writes, "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him" (Psalm 34:8). This invitation to "taste and see" suggests an experiential understanding of God's goodness, one that we can witness and participate in daily. Providence in Daily Life Consider those moments when you find the perfect parking spot just in time or when you receive a call from a friend just when you need it most. Consider when you open an email from your favorite author, and in the lines of the email are the answer to your prayers. Or even an encouraging word that you needed. While these might seem like happy coincidences, they can also be viewed as small yet significant manifestations of God’s providence. It's these everyday blessings that gently remind us of His presence and care. God's Goodness in Hardships Someone may be growing through trials and it's hard to see the good in everyday situations. However, I want you to know that God is still good. Hardships often challenge our understanding of goodness. Yet, it is precisely through these challenges that many find their faith deepened. James 1:2-4 encourages believers to consider trials as opportunities for joy and growth, for "testing your faith produces perseverance." Reflecting on this, we can see that our struggles often prepare us for greater things, shaping us to be more compassionate and resilient individuals. Maintaining Faith in Tough Times It's not always easy to feel God's goodness when times are tough. Maintaining faith can require courage and effort during such periods. Engaging in regular prayer, meditation, or participating in faith community activities can help sustain us. They remind us that we are not alone and that God’s goodness is constant, even when it feels distant. Practical Ways to Reflect God's Goodness Acts of Kindness... One of the most direct ways to manifest God's goodness is through acts of kindness. Whether it’s helping a neighbor in need or offering a listening ear, these acts of love and kindness are reflections of God’s own love for us. Words of Encouragement... Another way is to encourage others in their times of hardship. Whether it's a word of comfort, or simply a note of reflection, your reaching out to them proves that God has not forgotten them. Community Involvement... Getting involved in local community services can be a profound way to experience and distribute God's goodness. Whether volunteering at a soup kitchen or organizing community clean-ups, these activities allow us to be the hands and feet of divine love in the world. Conclusion Every day brings new opportunities to experience and reflect on the goodness of God. Whether through personal trials, daily routines, or the joy of community connection, His goodness is all around us, waiting to be recognized and embraced. I encourage you to keep your heart open to these divine moments. Perhaps start a gratitude journal or make a commitment to a new volunteer opportunity. Whatever path you choose, let it bring you closer to the essence of God’s endless goodness. I'd love to hear about your experiences of God's goodness in your life. Hello Village 🌸🍃
Here's to another Friday and a little more encouragement. I was thinking about how sometimes I get discouraged. In moments of discouragement, it often feels like an impenetrable thicket of defeat, despair, and discouragement surrounds us. It's as if these feelings have been secretly planted around us, waiting to ensnare us when we are most vulnerable. Yet, despite these moments of weakness, there is a breakthrough, an inner strength that propels us forward, and out of the danger zone. But where does this strength come from? How do we find the will to press on when all seems lost? I'm glad you desire to know. Everyone faces battles within themselves. These internal conflicts can stem from various sources: personal failures, external criticisms, enemies that pose as allies, or unforeseen life events. They plant seeds of doubt, fear, and despondency within our hearts, which can grow into daunting obstacles that seem impossible to overcome. It's in these dark moments that we question our capabilities and worth. We should also be made aware that the struggles are real. Paul says it like this: Romans 7: 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. However, there is a light that pierces through this darkness, a sudden clarity and strength that emerge seemingly out of nowhere. This power does not come from our own reserves; rather, it is the result of an alignment between our spirit and a higher power. For those who believe, this higher power is God, the Creator, who knows us more intimately than we know ourselves. The secret to overcoming discouragement lies in our spiritual alignment with God. When our spirit is in tune with God's voice, we are imbued with a strength that transcends our earthly struggles. This alignment reminds us that our battles are not fought alone. God's promises become the shield that protects us from the seeds of despair planted by our enemies. Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! The key takeaway is that when we align our spirit with God, no enemy or obstacle has the power to plant seeds of defeat in our hearts. This divine connection acts as a beacon of hope, guiding us through the toughest of times. It is a reminder that even when we face the darkest nights of our soul, we are never truly alone. Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Don't Give Up To anyone reading this who feels overwhelmed by discouragement, do not give up. Remember that the spiritual bond you share with your Creator is a source of infinite strength. It is a wellspring of hope that the world's despair cannot taint. Align your spirit with God's, and watch as you rise above the challenges that life throws your way. In conclusion, the journey through defeat, despair, and discouragement is a testament to the human spirit's resilience when supported by a higher power. Our ability to break through the barriers of discouragement is not just a testament to our strength but to the strength we draw from our spiritual alignment with God. It's a reminder that our enemies have no planting power when our spirits are aligned with the Creator. So, let's hold onto this truth, press forward, and be determined never to give up.🌸🍃 Pastor & Author, Danyelle Scroggins M.R.Ed🌸🍃 |
