Lust is a strong physical desire that causes us to have sexual relations with someone, without being in love with them or having affections for them. And whether you care to admit it or not, a lot of people are married to people who they physically desired before they knew them. We are and were created as sexual beings and there’s nothing wrong with physical desire when we are guided by self-control.
Nonetheless, the problem of physical desire is when we are desiring the wrong person and not understanding that there is an importance to knowing the person we desire physically. We often try to ignore this physical desire when it’s guided towards the wrong person or persons and ignoring what could become problematic, could cause us more harm. Lust must be dealt with or else it festers and becomes stronger. Ignored lust, if not dealt with, can become camouflaged as true affection or love. This is why women tend to fall in love so fast. It’s their desire and eagerness to have a mate that causes them to physically consider and entertain the wrong types of relationships. Physical attraction has nothing to do with physical desire. But physical attraction can quickly become physical desire, and this is the point where we should consider what we are feeling and bring our emotions under subjection to what is morally correct and right for us. Attraction that leads to lust can be critical to us only if we ignore what our flesh is feeling. Lust can not be ignored or pushed to the back of our minds. We must allow ourselves the opportunity to deal with what we are feeling, allow God to fix these feelings through the power of his Word, and be determined to live a life with self-control.
